About Us

Apples By the Baie is a recent addition to the apple community, but its location in Bouctouche is steeped in apple history! Our farm is located close to the Northumberland Strait – a strait in the southern part of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. The shallowness of the strait is largely responsible for the warmest summer water temperature in eastern Canada (20Β°C or higher in July), which gives the property a longer growing season. Its location in this micro-climate gives our farm a longer frost-free growing season. A by-product of this climate is the ability to grow a large variety of crops. Unsurprisingly, soil composition affects both the growth and performance of apple trees. On our property, we have sandy loam soil which is capable of quickly draining excess water and allows for greater control of soil moisture. Its close proximity to a large water supply on-site also makes irrigation easier. Ultimately, all of these properties result in a productive farm with high-yield crops.

Our orchards consist of 50% Honey crisp, 20% Pears, 15% Ambrosia, 10% Fuji, and 5% Gala apples.
